Jordan Knitzer is a composer, lyricist, and playwright from New York City. Class of 2020 alum, he graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Theatre. He is an active member of the BMI Lehman Engel MT Advanced Songwriting Workshop and Advanced Bookwriting Workshop .

Alongside his writing partner Jonah Bobo, Jordan was recently commissioned by Frank Shiner to write a full-length drama musical, Grow, which had a 29 hour equity workshop in September 2024 at Open Jar Studios.

Jordan’s 20-minute musical, Itchin’ For An Itch: The Mosquitical, received a staged performance in November 2022 at the New York Theater Festival (nominated for five awards and winner of Best Production Short) and was workshopped at Williamstown Theatre Festival in August 2018. This show is expanding into a full-length musical titled Buzzkill, featuring a hexalogy of bugs: an alcoholic mosquito, a cannibal praying mantis, a spotted lanternfly, a dictator locust, a cicadian rhythm band, and a bee vs. butterfly showdown. In 2020, Jordan partnered with the American Music Theatre Project (AMTP) to workshop his family drama musical, People You May Know, which is the winner of the 2020 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) Musical Theatre Award. At Northwestern, he served as the head writer of The Waa-Mu Show, America’s largest student-written musical, in which he had 12 writing credits between 2017 and 2018.

In April 2023, Jordan, lead singer/songwriter of the band Stage Wombat Collective, released his second EP titled Single Wombat on all streaming platforms. The band was nominated for best original song, “Clown Wolf,” at the 13th Annual Indie Series Awards in California. 

Jordan’s current passion project is co-written with Eliot Hawkins titled Stubbins, a dark comedy musical that centers around the true story of Stubbins Ffirth, an 18 year old student at UPenn trying to disprove the contagiousness of yellow fever during a pandemic in 1802.
